I usually recommend starting with two or three Regina neighbourhoods that fit your budget and priorities. Once you see some homes in person, you'll quickly learn what you like, what you don't and where you're willing to compromise.

Your budget will have a big impact on both where you can buy and what kind of house you can get.
The same amount of money can buy very different homes depending on the neighbourhood. You might be choosing between an older renovated home, a newer house with a smaller yard, a larger home that needs some work or a condo with less maintenance.
This is one of the biggest parts of choosing a neighbourhood in Regina. You're not just deciding where you want to live. You're deciding what you're willing to trade to live there.

2. Think About How You Actually Live

Don't choose an area simply because someone tells you it's one of the best neighbourhoods in Regina.
Think about your normal week instead.

Do you want quiet streets? Walking paths? A big backyard? Newer construction? Mature trees? Nearby restaurants and shopping? Easy access to Ring Road?

Different Regina neighbourhoods offer different combinations.
An established neighbourhood like Walsh Acres offers a very different style of homes, lots and surroundings than an area like Wascana View. Neither is automatically better. They appeal to buyers with different budgets, needs and preferences.
The right neighbourhood should make your normal life easier, not just look good on a map.

If schools are important to your move, don't assume the closest school is automatically the one your children will attend.

Even if you don't have children, you may still want to know which schools are nearby. Schools, parks and other community features can matter to future buyers when it's eventually time to sell.

4. Commute: Regina Is Easy to Navigate, But Location Still Matters

When thinking about your commute in Regina, don't only look at how long it takes to get to work.

Where is daycare? Where do your kids have activities? Where do you buy groceries? Where does your family live? What part of the city do you seem to drive to several times every week?

Regina isn't a huge city, but choosing the right location can still save you a surprising amount of driving.

You don't need everything within walking distance. You need the things that matter to you to be reasonably convenient.

6.  Research Future Development in Regina

If you're looking at a newer area or buying near undeveloped land, take some time to research future development in Regina.
New roads, schools, commercial areas and housing can make a neighbourhood more convenient over time. Development can also change traffic, views and what surrounds your property.
Don't assume the empty field behind a house will always be an empty field.

7. Visit the Neighbourhood Yourself

Online research can only tell you so much.
